“I don’t think that I’ll go to the retirement home. I’m sort of tired and I think a headache might be coming on. I’ll just stay here.”
“You should go.” I felt as if God was whispering in my ear.
"Well...God, I don't feel the best...maybe I'll skip this time.”
“Go!”
"Well...okay." I was sort of reluctant.
When we arrived in the retirement home, we quickly made our way to the dining room and began to invite the residents to join us for a small church service. After a short message from God’s Word, one lady raised her hand.
“Can I help you with something, ma’am?”
“I want to ask Jesus into my heart.”
“You do?” I was surprised.
“Yes, I do.”
After I went through the plan of salvation through Jesus Christ, I came to one final question:
“Do you want to ask God to forgive you of your sins and become your personal Lord and Savior?”
“Yes.”
I knelt down beside her wheelchair, held her hand, and led her in a simple, but sincere prayer. Once we finished, with tears in my eyes, I said, “Do you know whose child you are now?”
“I’m God’s child.”
On the bus ride home, I thought things over. What if I hadn’t listened to the Holy Spirit? What if I had been stubborn and said, “No way, I’m not going!” or if I had used my almost headache as an excuse?
Salvation came to that elderly lady five weeks ago. I’m so grateful that I listened to God when He said “Go!” And I'm even more grateful that it wasn’t me who did the saving – I was merely a tool in the hands of a loving God.
And you know what?
All I did was listen and follow.-
